Download JDSS II

Version 2.1.1 (July 23, 1999)

If you are updating a previous installation, remove the older version first. If installed with a Windows setup, go to Control Panel|Add/Remove programs, select JDSS from the list and remove it. If installed using the generic installer, simply delete the JDSS directory and any icons. Be sure that you do not delete your .jdsskeys key file if you are deleting directories.

Version 2.1.1 features the latest Java 2 runtime (JDK 1.2.2) which now lets JDSS II function properly on Windows 98. This new Java runtime also features faster start-up time and improved performance.

Windows 95/98/NT4

One big file

Simply run the downloaded executable file and follow the familiar setup instructions to install JDSS and the required Java runtime components (includes Java 2 Runtime Environment, 1.2.2) This installer will place a JDSS item in your Windows Start|Programs menu.

Five Smaller Files

Each of the above will extract to your Temp directory by default, into folders Disk1, Disk2, Disk3, Disk4 and Disk5, respectively. Open folder Disk 1, and run the setup file to install JDSS and the included Java Runtime Environment 1.2. After installation, delete the Disk1 through Disk5 folders in the Temp directory.

Windows NT Users who plan on using JDSS with RMI may wish to use our free ServiceMaster utility. ServiceMaster will let you easily and safely install rmiregistry.exe (and other applications, including standalone Java apps) as an NT service.

Generic (Windows 95/98/NT4 and Solaris)

Download Java self-installer

This download version requires a pre-installed Java 2 runtime! This class file must be saved with a ".class" extension. If your browser incorrectly saves the file as an ".exe" file when you download it, change it to ".class" before running it with Java. To install the software, run this class file with your java launcher, for example

c:\jre1.2.2\bin\java jdss2_1_1

and it will self-extract in a user-friendly installation program. The java installer will also create a batch or script file that can be used to easily start the program.

Java 1.2 runtimes for Windows and Solaris platforms are freely available from Sun Microsystems's JavaSoft Division. We recommend using the latest version, 1.2.2.
